The “following” is a very important part of the Instagram management process. It allows to interact with users or target audience, get some users to follow your account back and grow it or boost sales and so on. But sometimes when you try to hit the “follow” button via mobile application or set the “follow tool” in the software – account may get a popup notification – “action blocked, pls try again later”.
Recently we already made a thread that explains the reasons for action blocks. For more information click here.
But this time the reason is deeper and its called Instagram Update.
Around June 1, 2019 – Instagram made a new update, which reduced the number of possible “follow” actions. Besides a lot of accounts got long action block and impossibility to “follow” even one user regardless of what kind of proxy is used – mobile, data center or direct IP as well as regardless of what kind of software is used or even a mobile app.
For the test, we look at a couple of accounts we manage in the automated software.
The first column – it’s a “follow tool”. The red exclamation mark – means the action (follow) it blocked.
Then we analyzed the statistics of “follow” actions for every account for a particular period – 18/05/2019 – 18/06/2019 and got the next numbers:
- “Account 3”
“Account 3” for the period of 18/05/2019 – 18/06/2019 made in total 6187 actions and – got an action block
- “Account 5”
Here is the follow stats of “Account 15” and “Account 20”
- “Account 15”
“Account 15” for the period of 18/05/2019 – 18/06/2019 made in total 5586 actions and still working well
- “Account 20”
“Account 20” for the period of 18/05/2019 – 18/06/2019 made in total 5090 actions and still working
P.s. “Account 15” and “Account 20” did not perform actions for the period 10/06 -17.06 because of the proxy issues and not because of the action blocked.
At this step accounts that crossed the line of 6000 follows in total per month – are action blocked. Other accounts are still performing well
A few days later we analyzed the “follow” stats of accounts “Account 15” and “Account 20” again and got the next information:
“Account 15” and “Account 20” which recently were performed well got a “follow” action blocked too. Then we checked the “follow” stats of those accounts the period of 20/05/2019 – 20/06/2019
- “Account 15”
- “Account 20”
What do this informations say?
- The fringe is around 6k follows monthly, but not for all of the accounts.
- Every single account has its own trust score with an allowed number of actions.
- The “safe” number of daily actions (follows) around 200
How to fix the Instagram action blocked?
If your account is already action blocked – all you have to do is just a wait once the counter of the “follow” actions would be refreshed. Until that, stop the “follow” tool and use only other tools, as “like” tool, “commenting” tool, DMs and etc, cuz at this moment only “follow” tool been affected.
The next logical question is how to understand when the counter of “follow” actions would be refreshed.
There are 2 dates which might be a starting point:
- Date 1
Its the day when your account got a “follow” action block. Let it be June 1. In this case – you have to stop any follows for the next 4 weeks, until June 1
- Date 2
It’s exactly the day your account was created. Example: your account was created on March 3, 2015. In this case, it means – the counter of “follow” actions would be reset on the 3-rd of every month. To identify when an account was created all you have to do is:
- Log into your account via a desktop browser
- Click the “edit profile” button
- Go to “Privacy and security”, then click “View Account Data” and take a look at the date account was created – “Date joined”
We checked the creation date of every account which got an action block:
As the accounts got an action block on June 20, according to the information above (creation date) we had to wait until the counter of actions would be reset. For “Account 20” it’s July 28, for “Account 5” it’s July 5, for “Account 15” it’s July 18 and for “Account 3” it’s also July 27.
As of July 1, we got the next results:
And finally, on July 27 we started accounts again and they become running actions with no issues:
Thus this long and volume test clearly demonstrates the recent updates of the Instagram algorithms and changes fo allowed the number of monthly actions.
Does the “follow-unfollow” method still worth using it?
Obviously, a lot of people are got scared with this new updated and with this new reduced number of allowed actions and probably sure that the time of the “follow – unfollow” method is gone and now it’s useless.
Let us explain what has happened:
The number of possible “follow” actions were reduced. Now it’s around 200 per day and 6000 per month (may vary due to the account’s trust score). Yes it a fact, but do not forget – the new update is related to all of the accounts inside the network, not to the particular once. In its order – it means all of the users would be able to perform fewer actions, as a result – the network became cleaner, the users would be more friendly, cuz they would not be “tired” with a lot of “follow” notification and so on. Users would be more selective. Besides – accounts with 200 daily actions would look more natural, which will increase its trust score – it’s exactly one of the most important parts of Instagram management.
From this moment the quality would matter much more than ever before. Accounts must look good, post good, useful and whenever possible viral content. Since now it will take more time to find good sources to follow with high FBR (follow back ratio) and probably some advert media companies which offer the growing would be gone. But will stay only the best one with top-notch service. It doesn’t mean its bad, it means you have to adapt to the changes, become stronger and move forward!
